Day Two

Drawing Task

Why did I decide to place the viewfinder where I did?

  • various tonal values
  • variety of lines and marks
  • compressed and regular charcoal used (difference is visible)
  • finger smudges
  • small and large marks, long and short lines, triangular shapes
  • dynamic - circular marks like wheels, sharp marks of compressed charcoal (short stabbing motion on page)

Problems I encountered when trying to replicate this section on a larger scale:
  • replicating marks was difficult due to the size of the charcoal
  • spent too long on it and made sections too dark
  • next enlargement: will use one that has minimal white space
  • need to use rubber to remedy areas that should be lighter
  • finger prints hard to recreate

Section for larger group piece
  • I originally chose quite a dense section with minimal white space, however Tulaa and Jack chose quite minimal, light sections so I decided to change where my viewfinder was as to make our sections blend better as one piece of art.
